From Clinical Burnout to E-Commerce Boss: My Journey as a Dental Hygienist

From Clinical Burnout to E-Commerce Boss: My Journey as a Dental Hygienist

When I first graduated from dental hygiene school, I was eager, motivated, and ready to take on the world—or so I thought. I jumped into working 5 to 6 days a week, said yes to every shift, and gave 110% to every patient. But beneath the hustle, I was exhausted. The stress, the physical toll, and the pressure to perform eventually led me to a place I never expected: burnout.

Just a few months into working full-time, I found myself dreading each day in the operatory. I felt stuck, wondering, "Is this really what my life is going to look like forever?" The answer came slowly, but clearly: no. I realized that I needed to create something for myself—something sustainable, fulfilling, and on my own terms.

I started by doing what I was already good at: creating study guides. During school, I was the girl with the color-coded notes and DIY flashcards. I knew there had to be a better way to help students absorb the overwhelming amount of dental hygiene material. So I took a leap and created my first set of flashcards. It wasn't perfect, but it was a start.

That small idea turned into Tooth Fairy RDH.

What began as a side project quickly grew into a full e-commerce brand. I created tools I wished I had when I was a student—flashcards, reference guides, and resources that made studying not only easier, but actually enjoyable. From there, I expanded into coaching and created a course to help other burnt-out dental professionals build online businesses of their own.

Today, I run Tooth Fairy RDH full time. I moved out of the op, relocated to California, and built a life that feels aligned with who I am. I still use my dental hygiene background, but now I use it to serve in a new way—through education, empowerment, and entrepreneurship.

If you're reading this and you're feeling stuck, know this: you're not alone. There is another way. Whether you want to make your studying easier or start your own business, I'm here to help.
